My prom date

When prom came to town I immediately knew who I would ask to be my date (she doesn't have a choice, really). My longtime bish, Berrylicious (affectionately called "Berry"). The best thing about her is she let's me push her around. And in the end, isn't that what high school romance is all about?

We picked out coordinating outfits and made plans to get dolled for a good time this past weekend at the NY Academy gym/prom party hall.

Here's how the night went.

7:28PM

• Showered and began getting ready for the big event. Used that new Old Spice body wash (the one with the commercial that has the guy on a horse ... backwards).
• Watched Judge Judy in my underpants.
• Got dressed and ran out the door.
• Hopped in mom and dad's 'ol 240DL with faux wood paneling and put the pedal to the metal.

8:33PM

• Arrived at Berry's house to pick her up.
• Exchanged corsage and boutonnière.
• Took a quick snapshot for her parents' memory book.
• Took mental note of Berry's parents warning: "Bring her home by midnight or she's grounded for life".

8:54PM

• Arrived at the Prom.
• Met up with Peggy, the party animal, whose already been into the vodka-laced punch. She was probably the one who laced it.

9:03PM-11:39PM

• Hopped onto the dance floor and taught Berry to do the Side Steps moves ... since she can't dance.
• Booed the DJ whenever he played anything by Akon.
• Snuck up to the balcony to make out and drop paper clips into people's hair and cleavage ... and hid!
• Went outside to Peggy's car to take a few shots of the whiskey and tequila she stocked in her trunk, then headed back into the party for more Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Faber Drive and Lady Gaga tunes.

11:47PM

• Said goodbye to Peggy and her entourage (she was flirting with the DJ when we made our exit).
• Left the prom to drop Berry home to meet her extended curfew.

11:57PM

• Drove like a devil to drop Berry at home with a few minutes to spare, thus, avoiding a sentence of life imprisonment.
• Kiss goodnight and drive around the block to wait for Berry to sneak out.

11:58PM-12:22AM

• Listened to my iPod while I wait for Berry to pretend to go to sleep, crawl down her window, scale the trellis to the ground, and jog down the street to meet me in the parked car.

12:23AM

• Drove to Motel 6.

12:47AM

• Arrive at motel. Berry pays for the room rental. :-P

12:55PM

• Enter room #22 and commence *bow chicka bow wow*

How-to: Your guide to affordable prom suits for Gummie and Token holders

Gents, you do know that you have less clothing options in Pico than the ladies, don't you? And the same is true of prom wear. Whereas the girls have over 80 affordable dresses to choose from, the boys have just over a dozen.

In the time that you have left to dress up and ask out your favorite femme, let's think about what you're going to wear for prom that doesn't have the Not available disclaimer right where the amount of all the Tokens you saved up should be.

Let's look beyond the suits that have been released specifically for prom that require AmebaGold.

Just like the ladies, keep these 3 things in mind ...

1. Look deep into your closet.
You don't have to be a spendthrift to turn heads. Being fiscally responsible 'aint such a bad thing. Search through those mounds of piled up clothes in your closet for goodies you've already got. There's nothing wrong with dressing to impress in something that's not fresh off the shelf.

Already got a suit and some dress shoes in the back of your wardrobe? Put 'em on. If not, count your Gummies and tell your mama that "papa needs a brand new bag".

2. Window shop. Then shop till you drop.
You've got limited options in comparison to the ladies, so, be creative! Take a look at what Pico's shops have to offer you in exchange for your Gummies and Tokens.

Tip #1: Don't wanna spend 2,500 Gummies on a suit from the Shop Catalog? Buy a suit jacket for 800 Gummies suit jacket and a one of the 700-Gummie pants from Beginners Plaza ... or a pair of jeans.

Tip #2: Since you have much less to work with feel free to mix it up to stand out from the crowd. Try colorful sneakers or sports shoes.

3. Accessorize.
Pull out that watch you got by default when you signed up for Pico ... unless you recycled it for 10 Gummies when you hit hard times. Shoes are your most important accessory. Next to that, the traditional boutonnières. The simple rosettes ones are very affordable (300 Gummies) ... not to mention the fact that ladies love them on a guy. Shows your strong, yet sensitive side.

• Rose boutonnières
• Rose wrist corsages

Prom accessories you can buy with Tokens:

• Black or white satin gloves (short, mid-length and long)
• "Sweet" hand corsages
• "Sweet" corsages

We've got 20+ days left for prom fun. You're gearing to go ... but you just have one problem. You don't have the AmebaGold needed to buy the prom dress you've been yearning for.

For ladies who aren't lucky enough to have the AmebaGold (and don't have the option of purchasing it ... ever), that pesky Not available text when you want to purchase a gown with your carefully collected tokens just means you'll have to be a little more creative ... and you need a dress that you can purchase with Gummies or Tokens.

Though you won't be able to buy a dress that's specific to the prom fashion releases, you do have a large selection of good looking non-prom dresses that you can accessorize with prom items.

Let's start thinking about what you can wear.

There are 3 important things to consider.

1. What's already in your closet?
There's no need to spend your hard earned Gummies or Tokens if you have a dress won through Gacha campaigns or received as Facebook gift boxes (e.g. Asakusa, Glitter Princess, Spring Apron Dress or Alice Dress, etc.) that you already love. You may also have 'Accessories', 'Goods' or 'Other' items that will compliment your prom look.

If you find something you like, put it on and start to build your prom style around it. If there's nothing there that  makes you wanna shout ...

2. Is there something in the shop catalog or stores that you can put on?
Pico girls have tons of dresses to choose from. You may have to shop around, but you're sure to find something to wear in the 80+ casual to formal options that are currently available to you.

Frills, bows, belts, sashes; v-neck, halterneck, strapless; pink, white, purple.

You've got choices. Just don't choose the purple belted monster, please.

3. What accessories can you wear?
Shoes are your most important accessory. Next to that, the traditional corsage. Got something bumping around your closet? If not, put those Gummies and Tokens that are burning a hole in your pocket to good use!

Prom 2010.

Though prom lasts for one night, Pico is bringing it to us in 27 days of boogie bliss. For just shy of one month, the NY Academy high school gymnasium will be transformed into a magical place filled with colored strobe lights and throbbing music where even the most undesirable nerds stand to cop a feel ... if the mood is right.

Though the mundaneness of the oppressive gym setting is merely covered up by balloons, sparkley themed wall decals, and streamers, prom holds great significance for most high schoolers. It's one of those nights that radiates with that "forever young" feeling - that you can live forever, that anything is possible and that the night will never end.



In Pico, guys and dolls can visit the Path to the Prom room in the Travel menu (formerly High School Corridor room) and visit the snappily dressed Prom Shop merchant to pick out their prom wear. There are several styles and colors of boutonnières, corsages, hair flowers, pumps, loafers, gowns and tuxes to choose from.

Once your hair is primped and gelled to perfection and you've slithered into your fancy clothes, head on down to the Prom Party Hall room (formery the High School Gym room) and get dancing (or clustering against the wall until you get asked to dance or muster up the courage to ask someone yourself)!

Facebook users can gift boutonnières and corsages to their sweetheart(s).

While the night is still young, don't forget to mosey over to the Prom Action Shop (I don't know why they would name it this, 'cause "prom action" is something totally different ... *wink wink*) for 1 of 3 animations.
